'Portland' - Watercolour on paper
As a Research Entomologist, Stuart has always been a keen observer of the natural world,
and has worked in the field in some of the most stunning of landscapes, both in Britain and overseas.
His appreciation of land form, history and light led him to make his first footsteps
in the world of watercolour painting in 2015.
He favours a loose style and the use of a limited palette to capture the subtle nuances
of light and shade, sea and sky. The watercolours of Edwards Wesson, Edward Seago, Rowland Hilder,
and Norman Ackroyd, all undoubted masters of the genre, have been a major influence on his developing style.
